Job Developer

Department: Plumley Village Community Life
Reporting to: Director of Community Life
Primary Function: The Job Developer’s primary responsibility is to establish and maintain activities to locate, develop, and secure job openings and provide skill-building instruction and/or coordination for Plumley Village adult and youth residents.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Job Development
- Initiate and maintain ongoing contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement
- Match job skills with applicant qualifications; refer qualified applicants to employers and conducts necessary follow-up when applicants are placed in positions
- Keep updated regarding job fairs and Internet resources; participate in outreach and recruitment activities by coordinating and attending job fairs.
- Make cold calls to potential employers; explain the benefits of partnership and employment support services available
- Research newspapers, agencies, and other resources for job leads
Resident Support
- Assess participants’ job skills for positions
- instruct in job seeking, application procedures, resume writing, interview preparation and job retention skills and attitudes
- Assist residents in preparing job search portfolios; provide job search and career information workshops and presentations
- Provide labor market and community resource information
- Monitor participant performance on the job and counsel participants when job performance is not satisfactory
- Instruct residents in cohorts for computer and soft skills training
- Coordinate and implement training programs with partners, including CNA and driver’s education
- Collaborate and sustain relationship with Workforce Central and other workforce development partners
- Prepare reports related to placement activities; track participant activity and progress data
Qualifications: Knowledge & Skills Required:
- Verified experience in job placement in either private or public agencies within the last four years
- Methods and techniques of job development and job placement
- Understanding of local labor market trends and employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors in the Worcester area
- Experience working with at risk populations
- Experience in public relations
- Systemically operate from strength-based and member contribution lens
- Demonstrated ability in building relationships with community partners
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with site team members and members of other organizations
- Superb organizational skills and ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Upbeat attitude and ability to inspire others
- Cultural competency and responsiveness
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office
Knowledge and Skills Preferred, But Not Required:
- Familiarity with affordable housing
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
- Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
