Fifty 2-3 bedroom affordable townhouses offering privacy to residents while encouraging community through landscaped common areas and playgrounds.

The People’s Redevelopment Corporation (PRC), a non-profit, which has been active since the late 1960’s in promoting improvements in the South Providence, Rhode Island neighborhood, sponsored Oxford Gardens. In the summer of 1987, PRC hired The Community Builders to help them overcome the obstacles to completing the development. The townhouse-style family housing was completed in 1989 and surrounds a mid-rise tower that has been housing the elderly since 1978.
The 50 townhouses in Oxford Gardens each have separate entrances, individual front and rear yards, and basements in order to promote a sense of privacy. However, there are also landscaped common areas and playgrounds spread throughout the development in order to encourage community. Inside, each unit has washer and dryer hookups and a full eat-in kitchen.
Due to the extraordinary need for affordable rental housing for larger families, Oxford Gardens has 34 3-bedroom units totaling 68% of the unit mix. Of the remaining 16 2-bedroom units, two are fully accessible to handicapped persons. All of the units in the development have been reserved for low- and moderate-income families.
