Shawn Hunt
Midwest Regional Director
Shawn Hunt joined The Community Builders, Inc. in 2009 as Regional Director of TCB's Midwest territory. In this capacity he works with communities, investors, lenders, and others in identifying critical need areas and in developing strategies for neighborhood revitalization programs. He also provides regional support for TCB's development, preservation, property management, and Ways & Means professional teams.
Prior to joining TCB, Mr. Hunt was a real estate developer in the for-profit sector and brings extensive project leadership experience in comprehensive and complex public-private partnerships, urban multi-use developments, historic restorations and renovations, military base redevelopments, and urban and suburban residential communities.
As a former business owner and corporate executive, Mr. Hunt led some of the area's most respected real estate concerns and multi-firm joint ventures. Past projects and roles include:
- As founder and principal of Bluegrass Development Services, LLC, a $100 million residential community in Lake Bluff, IL that includes new single-family homes, luxury condominiums, restoration of two historic structures, establishment of a conservation easement protecting picturesque woodlands and ponds, and dedication of public recreation areas.
- As co-founder and principal of Mesa Development, LLC, served as development manager and investor for The Heritage at Millennium Park—a 60-story, 1,100,000 square foot mixed-use property in Chicago's Loop. The project entailed the marriage of a contemporary, high end retail complex and luxury condominiums with four historic structures which were built circa 1873—immediately following the Great Chicago Fire.
- As chief operating officer and Managing Director for Stein & Company, a leading real estate development and brokerage firm, and as Managing Director and business unit leader at Mesirow Stein Real Estate (successor firm of Stein & Company) served as 1) co-lead for the 2.1 million square foot, $675,000,000 expansion of Chicago's McCormick Place convention complex, 2) development manager for The Glen, a 1,100-acre mixed-use development of the former Glenview Naval Air Station in Glenview, Illinois, 3) development manager and investor in the restoration and development of the Town of Fort Sheridan, site of the historic former Fort Sheridan Army Base located north of Chicago, 4) project executive for the $100,000,000 acquisition, restoration and expansion of the Civic Opera House for Lyric Opera of Chicago, 5) project executive for the $60,000,000 Goodman Theatre Center of Chicago, and 6) project executive for the 800,000 square foot Ralph H. Metcalfe Federal Office Building for the U.S. General Services Administration.
Mr. Hunt attended the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business and the University of Tennessee’s School of Architecture. He is a licensed architect and is a LEED Accredited Professional (U.S. Green Building Council).
